Date Added: 25 August 2016, 14:50

Presidential Spokesperson Barış Burcu announced that during this stage of the intense negotiation process, which is scheduled to take place between 23 August and September 14 2016, President Mustafa Akıncı and Greek Cypriot Leader Anastasiades will negotiate on some of the outstanding issues that haven’t yet been agreed.

In his written statement, Burcu noted that the Leaders will especially focus on outstanding issues in the first four chapters:  Governance and Power Sharing, EU, Economy and Property.  The last two chapters, namely Territory and Security and Guarantees, will only be discussed within the framework of brainstorming. Burcu added: “In our discussions on territory, names of locations, maps and figures/percentages will continue not to be discussed”.

As had previously been mentioned, the issues under Territory will be discussed in detail and at the final stage of the negotiations. The last chapter of Security and Guarantees will be negotiated alongside the three guarantor states at a multiparty conference at the final stage of the negotiations.
