17 October, 2018Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Kudret Özersay spoke at the symposium organized in the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University entitled “Law and Politics in the Eastern Mediterranean”.

Indicating that they would not allow unilateral work on the Cyprus issue, Çavuşoğlu emphasized that they had to protect the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people with their active steps.
“On one hand, we will do our drilling in the exclusive economic zone of Turkey, on the other hand, upon the invitation of TRNC, we will also continue this drilling in TRNC’s maritime jurisdiction areas and the exclusive economic zone around the island” Çavuşoğlu said.
Pointing out the need for a clear determination of what was to be negotiated within the scope of the negotiations on the Cyprus issue, Çavuşoğlu said: “There might be bi-zonal or any other federal solution. We are open to all kinds of ideas. As a result, we need to reach a political settlement with diplomacy and peaceful negotiations.
