29 November, 2016“We do not want the Cyprus negotiations to drag on in an open-ended way, so the date of the five-party conference must be determined as soon as possible during this year,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Serdar Denktaş, who has received the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser to Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide.
During the meeting, Eide informed Denktaş of the latest developments in Mont Pelerin and they exchanged views.
In his statement to BRT following the meeting with Eide, Denktaş noted that the negotiations up until now have not been very positive and that steps have been taken to find a way to continue the negotiations. He added, “Our position, which we made clear to Mr. Eide, is that this process should not be extended in an open-ended way and the date of the five-party conference must be determined as soon as possible during this year. The two leaders need to meet again and reach a result. We are not able to wait in an uncertain environment any more. In fact, the world has no right to expect us to live in such uncertainty.”
