23 November, 2017Cyprus’s current situation
24 November, 2017On Monday, 29 Israeli tourists entering the island via Larnaca Airport were refused entry to the country by the Greek Cypriot Administration after mentioning that they would be staying in the TRNC. The group were visiting the TRNC to take part in a tournament, but were detained at the airport and deported to Israel.
The Greek Cypriot daily newspaper Alithia reported that a similar incident had taken place earlier in September, when the Israeli Embassy intervened to guarantee the entry of Israeli citizens. Alithia reported that the Greek Cypriot Justice and Public Order Ministry suspended the policy in question for a two-week period after this previous incident, allowing Israeli tourists to enter the country, but noted that the embargo had now been reinstated.
