Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün has stated that the Cyprus negotiations have continued for many years as “the continuation of the current situation benefits everyone” in the international community.

Indicating that the Cyprus negotiations had started in 1968 and are still ongoing because the international community wants the continuation of the current situation, Özgürgün stated that negotiations are likely to carry on even though relevant parties think that this year will be the last.

The Prime Minister also underlined that the Greek Cypriot side does not accept Turkey’s guarantee, which is essential for Turkish Cypriots, and that it is aware that the Turkish Cypriot side will not say ‘Yes’ to any solution that does not involve this guarantee.
