3 July, 2025President Ersin Tatar received Colin Stewart, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative and the Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. Following their meeting, President Tatar made a statement to the press.
Expressing that they discussed various topics during the meeting including the upcoming 5+1 meeting scheduled to take place in New York in July following the one held in Geneva on March 16-17.
President Tatar indicated that Maria Angela Holguin, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Representative for Cyprus, had been reappointed to facilitate progress on six thematic areas addressed during the Geneva talks. However, he remarked that no substantial progress had been achieved so far.
President added that he had sent a letter to Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General, stating, “I conveyed the dissapointments we have experienced during this period. But, we have consistently maintained our commitment to dialogue, communication, and a constructive approach.”
