According to a statement from the TRNC Presidency, President Ersin Tatar travelled to İstanbul yesterday to hold numerous contacts. As part of his visit, Tatar participated in a live broadcast on NTV television channel.
Tatar stated that there would be no turning back from the national policy and emphasized the condition of sovereignty for the continuation of negotiations on the island. Tatar stressed that a two-state solution in Cyprus is now inevitable. He said “There have been already two states for 60 years. It is not possible to abolish these two states and establish a unitary state.”
President Tatar added, “So far, everything has been tried and exhausted for a federal-based agreement. If a negotiation table is to be set up, our sovereignty must absolutely be recognized. This is very important and non-negotiable.”
Explaining that sovereignty arises from international agreements and those rights are not subject to negotiation, President Tatar reiterated that negotiations would only resume once sovereignty is recognized.
