Mustafa Lakadamyalı, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), attended the 50th. Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Yaounde, the capital of Cameroon, on August 29-30, 2024.
In his speech at the second session of the General Assembly, held under the theme “Development of Intra-OIC Transport and Communication Infrastructure: Major Instrument in the Fight Against Poverty and Insecurity” Undersecretary Lakadamyalı underlined the importance of decent transportation and communication infrastructure to support our Palestinian brothers and sisters during the ongoing war in Gaza. Stessing that the theme of the meeting has a special significance for the Turkish Cypriot people, who have been deprived of their most basic human rights for decades, Lakadamyalı expressed that the Turkish Cypriots have been subjected to an unjust and inhumane embargo and isolation for years and reminded the participants of the decisions taken at previous OIC Summits and CFM meetings regarding the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people, as well as the calls made by the Secretary-General to the member states. Undersecretary Lakadamyalı called on Member States to strengthen their solidarity and relations with the Turkish Cypriot people.
Regarding the Cyprus issue, Lakadamyalı asserted that a permanent and sustainable resolution in Cyprus can only be achieved on the basis of two states on the island and that cooperation between the two states could be pursued by reaffirming their sovereign equality and equal international status.
