Prime Minister Üstel: “Glorifying EOKA distorts history and ignores the oppression suffered by the Turkish Cypriot people”

Emphasizing that EOKA is synonymous with massacres, attacks and systematic pressure against the Turkish Cypriot people, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said, “To glorify EOKA is to distort history and to deny the oppression suffered by Turkish Cypriot people.”

In a written statement, Üstel reacted to the remarks by the leader of Greek Cypriot administration, Nikos Christodoulides regarding the anniversary of the day EOKA began its activities, noting that glorifying the organization and reviving it in collective memory was acceptable and that this approach contradicts any effort to build a common future on the island.
