Doherty worked as a freelance journalist in many media organizations including Washington Post, before her duty in the US Department of State.
Doherty was educated in the field of political sciences and has a master degree in the Comparative Political Systems from the London School of Economics.
She is the recipient of numerous honor awards. Besides her mother language, she speaks Italian, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese.
