President Tatar: “Armament in Greek Cypriot side reaches a dangerous level”
19 September, 2025Prime Minister Ünal Üstel emphasized that the Turkish Cypriot people would never abandon Türkiye’s guarantorship for their honorable future.
In his written statement evaluating the recent remarks of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Üstel highlighted that guarantorship means a two-state settlement. Stating that all previous attempts to keep our people’s hopes alive with the illusion of federation have failed, Prime Minister Üstel added that the Greek Cypriot side categorically rejected Türkiye’s guarantorship in every federal formula put forward in the past . Üstel noted that a settlement without Türkiye would mean nothing but insecurity, uncertainty, and leaving the Turkish Cypriot people at the mercy of the Greek Cypriots.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Üstel stressed “We have paid a heavy price for the attempts of the Greek Cypriots to reduce us to a minority. The will of the Turkish Cypriot people and Türkiye, as a party at the negotiating table, is clear: The chapter of federation is closed. Our path forward, with Türkiye’s unwavering support, lies in a settlement based on sovereign equality and the coexistence of two states. This vision also represents a guarantee of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
