President Ersin Tatar stated that it was out of the question for the Turkish Cypriot side to step back from the new policy carried out in full harmony with the Republic of Türkiye, adding that he will convey this once again to the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) on Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuellar, whom he will meet this week.

President Ersin Tatar returned to the country after completing his meetings at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Gambia.

Speaking at the press conference on his return to the country, Tatar noted that they represented the Turkish Cypriot people in the best way at the summit in Gambia and that it was a successful summit.

Thanking the President of the Gambia and the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation for the close attention paid to them, Tatar pointed out that the OIC is a strong organisation and emphasised the importance of the TRNC’s observer status in the second largest organisation after the UN.

Stressing that they will continue to work for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to take its place in international organisations and to raise its status, Tatar pointed out that negotiations can resume on the basis of the new policy, and that a solution on a federal basis has been exhausted.

Tatar reiterated that the new policy would continue exactly as it is, stressing that they will continue to explain this to the UN and all relevant authorities.
